First launched in 1987, the Acoustic Energy AE1 redefined what a compact loudspeaker could achieve, delivering studio-grade dynamics, clarity, and bass from a remarkably small enclosure. Four decades on, the AE1 40th Anniversary Edition brings that iconic performance into the modern era with carefully considered engineering updates that respect the original’s legendary sound.
The new AE1 stays true to the original formula: a high-stiffness aluminium cone woofer, powerful motor system, twin front ports, and a metal dome tweeter housed in a compact, heavy cabinet. A newly developed tweeter with a larger 29mm voice coil and aluminium dome reduces distortion and improves power handling, while the updated 125mm aluminium cone woofer increases efficiency, lowers distortion, and delivers the natural midrange and punch the AE1 is famous for.
Modern enhancements include an aluminium shorting ring to reduce distortion, an easier-to-drive 5-ohm design, and a refined crossover for a warm, natural, dynamic sound suited to both home listening and studio use. The cabinet is finished in luxurious high-gloss black or walnut veneer and reinforced with Acoustic Energy’s RSC material for exceptional stiffness and acoustic performance.
